Housewives, Big Hats and Fashion?
Tuesday’s episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta actually featured a nonsensical boat ride, a fashion show with no fashions, pretty man feet and a Sunset BBQ where apparently the whole concept of RSVP meant nothing.
I am officially a NeNe fan. she pulled off the Big Hat Brunch for battered women and she really opened herself up by sharing some very personal aspects of her life. She also received the DNA results and we now know that Curtis is not her father. This was devastating news for her, but I do believe it is going to open up a new chapter in her life and change her in many ways. Hopefully the change will be for the good.
Lisa’s husband Ed will be playing for the Raiders which she is not too thrilled about since that will put him in California and away from her more. Lisa is turning out to be a real neutral and supportive party in all of the back and forth, he said she said drama. She seems to have her priorities straight, focusing on herself and her family. She isn’t catty, and she isn’t petty. She isn’t extravagant and very down to earth. NeNe is my favorite because she is so much fun and wild, but Lisa is definitely the wife that I identify with most.
Sheree started the clothing line. She by Sheree. She decided to have a viewing party instead of a fashion show and the initial ideas were very good, but I get the feeling that she wants to see a successful clothing line happen without necessarily realizing how much work a venture like that actually takes. The samples turned out to be a disaster, and she ended up having a fashion viewing party with nothing but blown up sketches on display. If she is serious about being a designer, why didn’t she oversee the samples and every aspect of producing the line personally, step by step? You don’t wait until the day before to preview something. It is your line, you are the one who should see that everything comes to fruition. Business ventures take work, they are like babies. You don’t hand off your baby until your baby can run itself
On the one hand, her persona is kind of irritating. She is all about being the only one with some piece of clothing or purse, she seems stuck on how she looks and how other people look, and she seems overly concerned with spending the most money and how much things cost…… But perhaps, the whole reason for starting the line was about proving something to her EX? I have to say his declaration of, “she might actually do something.” got under my skin. I could see how it made her feel bad too.
As a married woman, I know what it is like to put yourself on the back burner and support someone without feeling that you have been equally supported. It can make you feel very demeaned and small at times. If she allows more of this “real” aspect of her character to be explored, it would really show her depth. But I won’t hold my breath.
One thing I would like to see her capitalize on is the fact that she gives a great party, she should really be an event planner. She knows what she wants to see and she has the moxie and organization skills to pull it off. People should walk in their calling. She is missing hers.
Deshawn wanted to have the girls get together to make up. I can’t tell if she is trying to keep up mess, or if she really wants to get the girls together to make peace. But Kim and Sheree didn’t show up and they didn’t even call. Tacky! Deshawn seems to be a sweet person, though, and I don’t think she deserved to be stood up.
And Dwight, NeNe’s fabulously flamboyant friend. Where can I find me one of those? He is hilarious! Irreverent! And marches to the beat of his own flaming drum! He believes the secret of youth is sex three times a day. I am not going to elaborate on that. But it is an interesting concept. If he had said that it would make your stomach flat, I might actually consider experimenting.
In all this episode was enjoyable. It has really been fun getting to know the wives of Atlanta. I have read some blogs where people call them bad names, or have really horrible things to say about how they look or how much money they spend. But I look at these ladies as just ladies who are trying to find their own place in the world. They are more than just their money, or their friendships, or what their husbands do. I commend them for opening up their lives and putting themselves on display. I don’t think they represent all black women or all rich women, but no woman does. Whatever you think of them, you have to admit that they are living breathing fascinating women trying to just live their lives. Isn’t that what we are all doing?
None of us know what we would be like if we lived in front of camera everyday. I think most of us would be surprised to find that we are not as perfect, or gracious, or beautiful, or wonderful as we may think we are.
It looks like the next episode, everything will come to a head. Honestly, I can’t wait.
Have a great Wednesday, and remember to keep it real and always bootylicious.
